Deviant Art is the Shiz!

Deviant Art has to be one of the best sites on the internet.  I would definitely put it up there with things like You tube, Google and Facebook.  Obviously, just like any other internet site, it is littered with camera whore photos and porn, but every now and then you find images like these that make up for the smut.

Pro-Bono (I do it out of the goodness of my heart)

Okay, so tonight my mother got me to take a publicity shot of her and her Barbershop Quartet "Shenanigans".  I don't have my own personal studio, nor do I have a full make-up kit... but somehow I managed to get the job done.  I actually don't mind the final result, apart from the obvious shadow problems, but that's what you get when you try and take a group portrait in your living room while shining a torch in their faces and using a mirror as a reflector.

Abstract Expressionism in Photography

Today in Visual Culture, Silvia said something that really bothered me.  She was giving a talk about American Abstract Expressionism and how the movement rejects photography as an art-form because it is an accurate portrayal of reality.  In most cases this is so.  After all, the portrayal of reality is the ORIGINAL intent of photography, but just because a particular medium was created for a certain purpose does not mean that it cannot be used in different ways.

As I am not very good with words, here are some pictures to demonstrate my point:
